Tomb of Liang Shuming

The Tomb of Liang Shuming is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Tomb of Liang Shuming is located on Huangshan Mountain in Zouping County, Shandong Province.

Mr. Liang Shuming had an inseparable connection with Zouping County in Shandong. In 1924, he carried out a “rural construction” experiment in Zouping, Shandong, integrating traditional Confucian ideas of governance with aspects of modern Western civilization, thus forging a path of rural reform that achieved certain practical results. The rural school and village school models promoted during the rural construction experiment highlighted his vision of integrating social education with social transformation. Although the “rural construction” project he led in Zouping, Shandong, was eventually interrupted by the large-scale invasion of Japanese forces, its impact has been profound and continues to offer valuable insights for future generations.

He passed away in Beijing on June 23, 1988. In accordance with his will, his ashes were buried on Huangshan Mountain in Zouping County, Shandong Province.

The unique architectural style and rich cultural significance of the tomb hold great importance for the study of Mr. Liang Shuming’s life and China’s rural construction movement. The tomb was built in 1989, designated as one of the first batch of key cultural relic protection units in Binzhou City in 2004 (Document No. 3 [2004] of the Binzhou Municipal Government), and listed among the third batch of key cultural relic protection units in Shandong Province in 2006 (Document No. 136 [2006] of the Shandong Provincial Government).
