Baojia Site

The Baojia Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Baojia Site belongs to the Longshan, Shang-Zhou, and Han cultures. It is located south of Baojia Village in Changshan Town, Zouping County, on higher ground and is commonly known as "Baojia Buzi." In 1973, it was discovered due to a large number of exposed artifacts on the surface. In 1978, the Cultural Relics Work Team of Huimin Region conducted a comprehensive survey and drilling of the site, identifying that it is divided into two parts: a burial area and a residential area. The burial area contains clusters of tombs from the Shang-Zhou to Han dynasties. The residential area is located in the southern part of the site, where the lower cultural stratum consists of Longshan culture remains, overlaid with artifacts from the Shang-Zhou to Qin-Han periods. Among the Longshan culture items are stone axes, stone arrowheads, stone shovels, clam saws, clam sickles, black pottery cups, eggshell pottery fragments, pottery gui handles decorated with applied cordons, tripod legs in the form of ghost faces, as well as Shang-Zhou pottery li, pottery gui, bronze ge, and bronze knives—all of which exhibit typical characteristics of their respective eras. The tripod legs in the shape of ghost faces, also called bird-head-shaped tripod legs, are named for their resemblance to ghost faces or bird heads. These unique features are exclusive to the Longshan culture. In December 1977, it was announced as one of the first provincial-level cultural heritage protection units.
