The Jiukou Site

The Jiukou Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Zouping County.

The Jiukou Site is located in Jiukou Village, Handian Town. It is a plain highland site with a protected area of 70,000 square meters and a cultural deposit thickness of about 0.5 meters. In ancient times, it was part of the "Liangzou Ancient City" area. Surface-collected artifacts mainly include leg parts of li tripods and handles of dou vessels from the Shang and Zhou dynasties, as well as fabric-patterned tiles from the Han dynasty. This site provides valuable information for the study of settlement distribution, regional types, and cultural lineage in the area. In 2001, it was announced as one of the fourth batch of key cultural heritage protection units of Zouping County. (Document No. Zou Zheng Fa [2001] 64)

Handian Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Zouping County. It serves as a production base for grain and cotton in Zouping County. In 1949, it was called Qinghe District; in 1958, the Handian People's Commune was established; in 1966, it was incorporated into Chengguan District; in 1968, the Handian People's Commune was re-established; in 1984, it was restructured as a township; and in 1994, it was upgraded to a town. Located in the central part of the county, it is 7.5 kilometers from the county seat. The town covers an area of 85.1 square kilometers and has a population of 38,000. The Qingyun-Zichuan Highway and the Xiaozhen-Taizi Highway pass through the area. The Xinghua River, Liuliu River, Xinmin River, and Xiaozhen Main Canal flow through the region.
