Site of the Wang Bo Uprising

The site of the Wang Bo Uprising is a cultural relic protection unit of Zouping County.

The site of the Wang Bo Uprising is located in Diaowoyu Valley, southeast of Xiwotuo Village, Qingyang Town. The valley is surrounded by mountains on three sides, about three li in length, with a spacious interior. The northwest entrance, approximately 20 meters wide, is commonly known as the Mountain Gate. Towering peaks line both sides of the valley, dense with trees, making the terrain steep and highly defensible. In 601 AD, during Emperor Yang of Sui’s eastern campaign against Goguryeo, heavy taxes and forced labor caused widespread suffering. Blacksmith Wang Bo rallied people here, raising the first banner of rebellion. He led forces in battles across dozens of counties and prefectures in the Qi and Lu regions for eight years. In 1980, it was listed among the first batch of key cultural relic protection units in Zouping County (Document No. Zou Ge Fa [1980] 76).
