The Monument to the Brave Martyrs Who Sacrificed Their Lives

The Monument to the Brave Martyrs Who Sacrificed Their Lives is a cultural relic protection unit of Zouping County.

The Monument to the Brave Martyrs Who Sacrificed Their Lives is located southeast of Huili Village, Sunzhen Township. It stands 3.66 meters tall with a base width of 1.2 meters. The top of the monument is carved with two dragons playing with a pearl, while eight Buddha figures are engraved on both sides of the shaft. The upper right front side reads “The Monument to the Brave Martyrs Who Sacrificed Their Lives,” and the inscription says “Unafraid of Might.” This monument was erected in 1929 through fundraising by 19 villages in Zouping and Changshan to commemorate four villagers from Huili Village—Li Jiqing, Li Youchang, Li Gongchang, and Duan Weilie—who sacrificed their lives resisting the harassment of the bandit Zhang Mingjiu. In 1984, it was announced as part of the second batch of key cultural relic protection units of Zouping County (Document No. [1984]10 issued by Zouzhengfa).
