Liujia Tai Site

The Liujia Tai Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Liujia Tai Site is located in Liujia Tai Village, Jiangji Township, Jiyang County, dating back to the Shang and Zhou dynasties.

By 1985, the state had organized multiple excavations involving archaeological and cultural relic departments at the provincial, municipal, and county levels. More than 2,000 artifacts, including oracle bones, bronze ware and inscriptions, jade articles, pottery, porcelain, agate, and bone implements, were unearthed from five ancient tombs. After research and verification by experts and scholars from the Institute of History of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the National Museum, it was confirmed that this site was a burial ground for nobles during the Western Zhou Dynasty. Beneath the earthen mound lie several early Western Zhou noble tombs, where a large number of precious relics were excavated, drawing global attention from archaeologists and cultural relic professionals. Furthermore, it provides evidence that the regional history of Jiyang can be traced back to the Longshan Culture period 4,500 years ago.

The discovery and excavation of the Liu Tai Western Zhou Tombs have enriched contemporary understanding of ancient Chinese culture, and the unearthing of a large number of valuable relics has helped interpret the close relationship between Western Zhou history and the region of Jiyang.

On June 12, 1992, the Liujia Tai Site was announced by the People’s Government of Shandong Province as part of the second batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units in Shandong.
