Giant Buddha Head

The Giant Buddha Head is located on Fo Hui Mountain, southeast of Thousand Buddha Mountain in Jinan City, Shandong Province. On the mountain stands a massive carved stone Buddha statue built during the Song Dynasty. It was designated as a key cultural relic protection unit by Jinan City in 1979. A niche has been constructed on the statue, inscribed with the words "Mahavira Hall" by Zhang Yinglin, a scholar from the late Qing Dynasty.

Fo Hui Mountain has an elevation of 460 meters, with steep terrain, towering boulders, and winding valleys. It is said that in autumn, wild chrysanthemums blanket the mountainside among green pines and cypresses, forming one of the old “Eight Scenic Spots of Jinan” known as “Viewing Chrysanthemums at Buddha Mountain.” Ming Dynasty poet Bian Gong once praised this scene in his poem “Climbing Buddha Mountain on the Ninth Day”: “Red maples rise behind the ridge, purple chrysanthemums droop plump from the cliffs.” It’s a great destination for sightseeing and holiday trips.
