The Paiwan Noble Wedding in Pingtung Kicks Off on March 9 — A Happiness-Filled Tour for Just 699 NTD

The “2013 Indigenous Wedding Series — Love Across Dawushan” will take place from March 9 to March 31 in the three northern Pingtung townships of Majia, Sandimen, and Wutai. The series will begin with a gunshot ceremony in Majia Township, accompanied by the locally distinctive red quinoa wine, kicking off 23 days of joyful wedding celebrations. On March 10, indigenous cultural and creative vendors will be invited to set up a market, featuring scheduled performances of Paiwan indigenous songs and dances for all to enjoy. On March 16 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Linali Tribe, the “Night of Love and Quinoa” for the newlyweds will feature the ceremonial opening of love-brewed red quinoa wine, allowing the couples and guests to celebrate together. The highlight on March 17, “Love Across Dawushan: Vows Under the Red Quinoa,” will take place at the Majia Visitor Center, where eight couples will follow traditional Paiwan noble wedding rituals, including the betrothal, palanquin procession, and swing ride. Blessed by tribal members, family, and visitors, they will complete a romantic and deeply joyous wedding ceremony.

The Indigenous Wedding event centers around the traditional Paiwan wedding ceremony and is hosted in rotation by the three northern Pingtung townships of Sandimen, Majia, and Wutai. This year, Majia Township will hold a traditional Paiwan noble wedding for the couples, with the Lienshan Tribe community treating the newlyweds like their own children. The couples will start from their respective homes, going through a proposal, betrothal, and wedding blessing ceremony before officially uniting for life. The organizers will also present gifts such as good-luck gift bags and marriage certificates, ensuring the couples not only have wonderful memories but also leave with meaningful tokens.

In addition, from March 1 to the end of March, the organizers are holding a photography and microfilm contest titled “Happy Indigenous Photography,” where participants have the chance to win a prize of 10,000 NTD. To allow both domestic and international tourists to explore the beautiful indigenous villages and experience tribal culture, a variety of special tour packages are available during the event period.
