Lotus Spring

Lotus Spring is located in front of the residential courtyard at No. 69 Furong Street in Jinan. It is a rectangular stone pool, measuring 10 meters in length, 5 meters in width, and 3 meters in depth. A stone bridge spans across the middle of the pool. The north side of the pool is lined with granite railings, while the southern wall bears a stone tablet inscribed with the Chinese character "Lotus Spring" by the renowned calligrapher Mr. Wei Qihou, as well as his handwritten verse of the Ming Dynasty poem “Lotus Spring” by Yan Bi. "Lotus" was also an ancient alias for the water lily. During the Qing Dynasty, a Lotus Pavilion was built near the spring. The Qing Dynasty poet Dong Yun once resided here and composed the poem “Living by Lotus Spring.” In the late Ming and early Qing periods, the stream of spring water that ran from Lotus Spring to Pan Pond was referred to as the "Cloud-Laddering Stream."

The water level of Lotus Spring remains unaffected by the seasons, earning it the nickname "Miraculous Spring." Among the bustling and lively Furong Street, this small spring is a hidden gem of tranquility. Unlike the vibrant noise of the street, Lotus Spring offers a peaceful retreat. Its iconic stone tablet is also modestly nestled by the roadside.

Take bus routes 3, 101, K50, or K54 and get off at the Furong Street stop. Walk into Furong Street to reach the site.
