Ningyang Lingshan Temple

Ningyang Lingshan Temple is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Shandong Province.

Ningyang Lingshan Temple is located in Huafeng Town, Ningyang County, Tai'an City, Shandong Province, 45 kilometers from the county seat. It stands alone atop a solitary peak at an elevation of 170 meters, facing Ming Mountain to the east and Jiuding Panlong Mountain to the west. The area at the foot of the mountain is lush with trees that remain green all year round, while the mountaintop is covered with dense pines and cypresses, shrouded in mist and rosy clouds. Known as Miaofeng Temple during the Tang Dynasty and renamed Shoufeng Temple in the Jin Dynasty, the exact year of its establishment is unknown. Ascending from the sunny side of the mountain along a winding path, the terrain becomes steep near the summit, with iron railings installed on both sides of the stone steps. The "Stone Buddha Cave" on the mountain faces the path directly, housing a carved stone Buddha statue inside. The entire temple complex is elliptical in shape, approximately 60 meters long from north to south and 49 meters wide from east to west, divided into three sections: front, middle, and rear. The front courtyard is filled with stone stelae, including a stone engraving from the 23rd year of the Wanli era in the Ming Dynasty (1595 AD) recording the Shoufeng Temple assembly, and a stele inscribed with text by Confucius descendant Kong Minqi in the 9th year of the Kangxi era in the Qing Dynasty (1670 AD). The central part consists of a well-preserved ancient architectural complex, comprising the main Mahavira Hall, side halls on the east and west, a bell tower and drum tower in the form of four-cornered pavilions, and the main gate. The rear courtyard houses the Jade Emperor Pavilion, built in the 14th year of the Kangxi era in the Qing Dynasty (1675 AD), with two levels — the lower level is a stone arched structure, while the upper level has three bays with gray-tiled gable-and-hip roofing. According to the 1857 edition of the *Ningyang County Annals: Mountains and Rivers*, "When Emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty was still a commoner, he once ate at the home of Zhang Yanzhong in the old city and rested here."

Huafeng Town: Huafeng Town is located in the eastern part of the county. It borders the Chaiwen River, separating it from Daiyue District to the north, neighbors Lingshan Township to the south, connects to Dongzhuang Township to the east, and adjoins Nanyi and Ciyaotowns to the west. It covers an area of 59 square kilometers. The town government is based in Xinjie Village, 35 kilometers from the county seat. The Mengguan Highway and the Cilai Railway run across the entire territory.

In 1949, it was part of Tai'an County; in 1956, it was transferred to Ningyang County; in July 1957, it was placed under Xintai County; in March 1958, Huafeng Township was established; in September of the same year, Huafeng, Lingshan, and Dongzhuang townships were merged to form Huafeng Commune.
