Wangmu Mountain Scenic Area

Wangmu Mountain Scenic Area is located in the northwest of Gaoyu Town, at the junction of Sishui, Ningyang, and Xintai counties. The scenic area derives its name from the legend of the Holy Maiden Gazing at Her Mother. Covering a total area of over 8,000 acres, it is an important part of the provincial forest park. Currently, the scenic area has initially developed into an ecological sightseeing zone mainly for hiking and fruit picking, a traditional Chinese medicinal herb planting zone featuring honeysuckle and salvia, and a leisure and entertainment zone centered around large temple fairs and fishing. Visitors can not only enjoy the tranquil and lush pastoral scenery filled with the fragrance of fruits and verdant trees but also get close to nature through the ecological park, experiencing the joy of holiday leisure and green eco-tourism.

I. Fruit Picking Zone. On the basis of existing fruit trees, the fruit picking zone has vigorously introduced advanced varieties and expanded its scale. It now covers an area of over 3,000 acres, including an apple picking area of more than 2,000 acres with over ten varieties such as Red Chief, General, Jonathan, Fuji, Gala, and Banana; a chestnut orchard of over 1,000 acres; a persimmon orchard of over 200 acres; and a hawthorn orchard of over 300 acres. While sightseeing, visitors can fully experience the joy of picking and tasting organic fruits.

II. Huixian Mountain. Within Wangmu Mountain Scenic Area lies Huixian Mountain, which features the Huixian Mountain Temple. As the saying goes, "A mountain needs no great height to be sacred—its spirituality comes from the presence of immortals." Since the Ming and Qing dynasties, this site has enshrined deities such as Bixia Yuanjun, Guan Yu, and Hua Tuo. Pilgrims from all directions come here to pray for blessings and admire the scenic beauty. The Huixian Mountain Temple has now been renovated and restored. The annual temple fair attracts over 40,000 visitors from surrounding counties and districts, making it a renowned tourist destination in northern Sishui.

III. Dayun Temple. Dayun Temple is an ancient temple with a long history, originally built during the Ming Dynasty. Legend has it that the eminent monk Yongqi wandered here and discovered the uniquely shaped terrain resembling nine dragons playing with a pearl, which inspired him to settle down. After years of renovation, the temple complex gradually took shape, including the mountain gate, front and rear ancient halls, east and west corridors, and the rear hall’s Laozi Temple. Dayun Temple boasts unique scenery, beautiful mountains and waters, and a rich diversity of tree species within the scenic area. The forest farm spans a total of 3,200 acres, with a forest coverage rate of 70%, featuring over 200 varieties, primarily pine, cypress, and black locust. In addition to the original 1,200+ chestnut trees, in recent years, over 3,000 new fruit and nut trees such as walnut, pomegranate, and chestnut have been added; there are also over 100 varieties of precious medicinal herbs. This scenic area not only contains a thousand-year-old temple originally built in the Ming Dynasty but also maintains excellent vegetation, mainly consisting of black locust, pine, cypress, along with apple and chestnut trees. The area features diverse plant and animal resources, forming a picturesque landscape with fresh air, clear mountains and waters, pleasant scenery, birdsong, murmuring springs, streams flowing through flower-filled valleys, and hidden caves deep within the lush forests.

This scenic area is adjacent to other tourist attractions such as Xihou Valley in Zhongce Town and Fengxian Mountain in Zhagou Town, enjoying significant geographical and transportation advantages. It can be said that its unique location and superior natural and cultural landscapes lay a solid foundation for the development of eco-tourism. The area has evolved into a mountain forest resort integrating mysterious ancient temples, natural oxygen bars, Buddhist culture, and forest leisure vacations.

IV. Mountain Top Scenic Area. At the summit of Wangmu Mountain, grotesque rocks stand in various shapes, and lush black pines sway gracefully. A newly built reservoir forms a serene high-mountain lake reflecting the colorful mountains. Curved railings and a towering dam help control torrential rain and flood peaks. A newly constructed farmhouse restaurant adopts an architectural style integrated with eco-tourism, complementing the development of the scenic area. Visitors can not only enjoy the thrill of mountain and water exploration but also savor local specialty dishes.
