Feiying Pagoda

Feiying Pagoda is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

Feiying Pagoda is located next to BaoTa Primary School in Maqiu, near Wuxi Street in Nanchang County. Built in the first year of the Tianqi era during the Ming Dynasty (1621), it stands about 30 meters tall and is a provincial-level key cultural relic protected site.

This pagoda is a typical pavilion-style structure, facing south and built on a north-south axis, with a hexagonal floor plan. It is constructed with rectangular red sandstone slabs, has seven stories, and reaches a height of approximately 30 meters. Inside, there are stone steps that allow visitors to climb to the top. The brick eaves are laid out in five tiers, using corbelled brackets.

Commonly known as the Pagoda, Feiying Pagoda is located south of Baota Village in Maqiu Town, on the west side of the rural road from the radio station to Maqiu. This pagoda was built in the first year of the Tianqi era of the Ming Dynasty (1621) and is a traditional pavilion-style brick and stone structure. It faces south (360°), has a hexagonal floor plan, and each side of the base measures 3.2 meters. The base is built with rectangular red sandstone slabs. The pagoda has seven stories, with layers separated by bluestone slabs. Inside, brick steps allow visitors to move from the interior to the outer eaves and spiral up to the top. The brick eaves are arranged in five flat tiers with corbelled brackets. Including the finial, the total height is 35 meters. On the front of the third level is embedded a pagoda stele: on the right it reads “Erected on the eleventh day of the first month of the first year of the Tianqi era in the Year of the Yin Wood Rooster,” in the center are the three characters “Feiying Pagoda,” and on the left it states “Inscribed by Zhu Guozuo, Grand Secretary of the Eastern Pavilion and Number One Scholar of the Guiwei Year, and Constructed by Zhou Zhu, Left Provincial Governor of Xichuan and Number One Scholar of the Bingwu Year’s Metropolitan Examination.” Originally, to the left of the pagoda stood the Ayu Temple, built during the Tang Dynasty, which was destroyed long ago.
