Phoenix Valley Scenic Area

Phoenix Valley Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Originally known as Jiangxi Phoenix Valley Scenic Area, it is located in Huangma Township, Nanchang County, and is also referred to as Huangma Phoenix Valley or Nanchang Phoenix Valley. Jiangxi Phoenix Valley Scenic Area has now become a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, one of China’s Top Ten Farmsteads, the Most Popular Scenic Spot in China for 2012, a Five-Star Leisure Agriculture and Rural Tourism Park, a National Leisure Agriculture and Rural Tourism Demonstration Site, a National Science Education Base, as well as a creative base for the Jiangxi Photographers Association, the Jiangxi Prose Writers Association, and the largest and most popular outdoor wedding photography base in Jiangxi Province.

Phoenix Valley centers around eco-agriculture and promotes tourism through agricultural activities. Huangma Phoenix Valley Scenic Area is an agro-ecological demonstration park integrating fruit picking, paintball, sightseeing, leisure, and conferences.

Jiangxi Phoenix Valley Scenic Area is located at the Provincial Sericulture and Tea Research Institute in Huangma Township, Nanchang County, about a 40-minute drive from downtown Nanchang.

Jiangxi Phoenix Valley Scenic Area boasts mature ecological industry systems including tea, sericulture, landscaping seedlings, fruit farming, and more. It features 2,150 acres of ecological tea gardens, 100 acres of standardized high-yield mulberry demonstration gardens, 650 acres of ecological tourism orchards, 5,000 acres of ecological landscape flower and seedling bases, and 1,000 acres of water surfaces. The park is characterized by clear mountains and waters, lush greenery, serene surroundings, fresh air, flowers in all seasons, fruit throughout the year, and flocks of migratory birds—making it a true paradise where people can enjoy nature and greenery.

Within Jiangxi Phoenix Valley, the area is shaded by green trees, with clear mountains and waters, birdsong and floral fragrance, a tranquil environment, and fresh air. There are scenic views and blooming flowers in every season: in spring, there are intoxicating magnolia, peach blossom, pear blossom, cherry blossom, and crabapple; in summer, there are vibrant crape myrtle, hibiscus, and lotus flowers; in autumn, there are fragrant osmanthus, fiery red maple forests, and golden ginkgo woods; and in winter, there are camellia, camellia flowers, and plum blossoms. There are fruits year-round: strawberries and mulberries in winter and spring, mulberries, peaches, bayberries, and early ripening pears in summer, and citrus, pomelos, and persimmons in autumn. The entire park embodies ecological beauty, technological excellence, and rich culture, offering ideal conditions for agricultural sightseeing, leisure, experience, and science education. It has been praised by provincial and ministerial leaders as an “Ecological Treasure Garden” and a “Heaven on Earth,” and has been awarded the title of “National Science Education Base.”

It is currently the largest cultural and sightseeing agricultural tourism area in the province, mainly comprising ten major science and technology parks: the Ornamental Plants Exhibition Garden, Ecological Pig Breeding Demonstration Park, Ecological Tea Industry Exhibition Garden, Fruit Industry Exhibition Garden (Hundred Fruit Garden), Bailang Lake Resort, High-Yield Rice Creation Demonstration Park, Vegetable and Fruit Exhibition Garden, Agricultural Machinery Exhibition Hall, Aquatic Products Exhibition Garden (Fish Fun Park), and High-Efficiency Sericulture Exhibition Garden.

Ornamental Plants Exhibition Garden: Covering an area of 400 acres, it includes nine specialized zones—flower-viewing areas such as the Cherry Blossom Garden, Crabapple Garden, Crape Myrtle Garden, Magnolia Garden, Osmanthus Garden, and Camellia Garden; color-viewing areas such as the Colored Foliage Trees Garden and Rare Trees Garden; and a gardening supermarket that combines various “flowers,” “colors,” and DIY experiences. In spring, flowers bloom across the mountains, attracting visitors to take photos and linger in the sea of blossoms. The spring foliage in the Colored Foliage Trees Garden showcases the vibrant beauty of new growth, providing a refreshing sensory experience.

Ecological Pig Breeding Demonstration Park: Integrating ecological breeding, sightseeing farming, and circular agriculture, it showcases and promotes new technologies and achievements in ecological pig farming in Jiangxi Province. It serves as an excellent model for the development of ecological pig breeding in the province and a window for both domestic and international audiences to understand Jiangxi’s eco-agriculture. The park also offers valuable science education opportunities for young people.

Ecological Tea Industry Exhibition Garden: Comprising five main sections—the Ecological Sightseeing Tea Garden, Tea Sea Maze, Tea Sea, Tea Varieties Garden, and Lüyun Tea House—it integrates functions such as scientific research, science education, leisure sightseeing, and tea-picking experiences. The Tea Sea spans over 2,100 acres and is the most unique and spectacular sight in Phoenix Valley Scenic Area. The tea plantation undulates along the mountain terrain, stretching endlessly with lush green hues, truly embodying the phrase “created by man yet resembling nature’s artistry,” and is hailed as a “land art” masterpiece. The Tea Sea Maze covers 10 acres and is constructed using rows of tea bushes as dividers arranged in the pattern of the Bagua (Eight Trigrams). It takes one year to form and two years to fully develop into a scenic maze, where visitors can engage in maze games. The Lüyun Tea House demonstrates the entire manual tea-making process—from plucking → withering → fermentation → fixing → rolling → drying → (initial processing) → refining → processing → packaging → finished product. Guests can also personally experience tea picking and production, and enjoy their self-made fresh tea while watching tea ceremonies—a truly unique experience.

Modern Fruit Industry Exhibition Garden: The orchard grows a wide variety of fruits including Majia pomelo, red-hearted pomelo, Xinyu red pomelo, honey peach, fragrant pear, Cuiguan pear, red tangerine, kiwi, persimmon, loquat, bayberry, and pomegranate—truly achieving “fruits in all seasons.” It also combines tourism with science education, leisure sightseeing, and fruit-picking experiences.

Bailang Lake Resort: Covering an area of 5,000 square meters, it is a high-end resort villa complex. It includes one comprehensive building, eight expert villas, 120 beds, a leisure plaza, parking lot, swimming pool, gym, tennis court, and other facilities. It is an ideal venue for training, conferences, and dining.

High-Yield Rice Creation Demonstration Park: Built to the standards of “square fields, connected irrigation channels, drought resistance, and flood drainage,” the core area of 100 acres is developed to high standards, integrating scientific research and breeding, high-yield creation, production demonstration, and technology promotion, serving as the core base for high-quality and efficient agriculture.

Vegetable and Fruit Exhibition Garden: Includes vegetable and fruit greenhouses, a vegetable and fruit landscape display corridor, and a strawberry picking garden. The greenhouses use soilless cultivation, vertical farming, and hydroponics to grow ornamental vegetables, establishing a system for researching and promoting new vegetable varieties, resulting in a highly technological vegetable cultivation garden. The strawberry picking garden mainly plants the Hongjia and Fengxiang varieties, planted annually in September with fruit harvested starting December and continuing until May of the following year due to the long fruiting period. Visitors can personally experience strawberry picking here. Strawberries are highly nutritious, rich in amino acids, proteins, vitamin C, malic acid, citric acid, as well as higher levels of carotene, calcium, phosphorus, and iron compared to apples, pears, and grapes. Taiwanese people call strawberries “living vitamin pills,” while Germans refer to them as “miracle fruit.”

Agricultural Machinery Exhibition Hall: Covering a total area of 2,000 square meters with an exhibition space of 460 square meters, it was built based on the long-standing farming culture and is the first specialized agricultural machinery exhibition hall in the province’s history. By contrasting modern agricultural machinery with traditional farm tools, it achieves science education goals while promoting high-tech and high-efficiency modern equipment.

Aquatic Products Exhibition Garden: Also known as Fish Fun Park, it covers an area of 300 acres and includes four functional zones. In the Experience Zone, you can spend a day as a fisherman, enjoying the fun of feeding and catching fish; the Sightseeing Zone allows you to admire mulberry gardens, pick fruit, and observe fish underwater, immersing yourself in the beauty of nature and forgetting the hustle and bustle of the city. The Fishing Zone and Leisure Zone offer the experience of “green, serene, and natural” scenery while enjoying green aquatic food.

High-Efficiency Sericulture Exhibition Garden: Includes a fruit mulberry picking garden and a mulberry varieties garden. The fruit mulberry garden has introduced and cultivated six high-yield and high-quality fruit mulberry varieties, primarily serving fruit deep processing, tourist sightseeing, picking experiences, scientific research, science education, variety breeding, and promotion. It integrates the sericulture industry with the service sector to promote industrial advancement.

In addition, the scenic area’s supporting facilities continue to improve. The construction of amenities such as “farmhouse stays,” specialty supermarkets, eco-toilets, tree-trunk-style trash bins, and landscape stones greatly enriches and enhances the tourism resources of Phoenix Valley Ecological Scenic Area, elevating the overall quality of the Phoenix Valley travel experience.

Huangma Township: Located at the southeastern tip of Nanchang County, adjacent to Jinxian County and Fengcheng City.
