Introduction:

Xiufeng Bridge is situated about one kilometer southwest of Shanjia Village in Sanjiang Town, on the former course of a tributary of the Fu River, southeast of Chenggang Ridge. It is a three-arch stone bridge built during the mid to late Ming Dynasty, with a total length of 30 meters and a width of 4 meters, oriented from southeast to northwest. The arches of the bridge are formed using large granite blocks, while the bridge deck features three straight rows of long granite slabs in the middle and transverse slabs on both sides. At the southeast end, there are several stone steps leading up to the bridge, and at the northwest end, flat stone slabs serve as an approach ramp down to Chenggang Ridge. The sides of the bridge deck are fitted with long granite railings. The two central piers are built with large granite blocks in a slightly upturned pointed shape facing the direction of water flow (commonly known as “water-dividing piers,” also called “ridge heads”) to reduce the impact of water flow on the piers. These water-dividing piers are 1.7 meters lower than the bridge deck.

Xiufeng Bridge is a valuable physical resource for the study of bridge construction art in the mid to late Ming Dynasty.
