The Wanli Ancient Well is a cultural relic protection unit of Nanchang County.

Introduction:

The Wanli Ancient Well is situated to the south of Yuechi Village in Gangshang Town. The western side of the well’s coping stone bears the inscription “Wanli Gui □□□□ Dan,” proving that the well was first dug during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. The northeastern side of the coping stone also features a sunken clerical script inscription reading “Repaired in the Year of Renchen, Guangxu,” while the southeastern side has a sunken clerical script marking “Supervised in the First Year of the Republic of China (1912), Year of Yin, Third Month.” Additionally, the eastern side of the coping stone is inscribed with “Minor repair in 1968.”

The well’s coping stone is carved from pale yellow sandstone. Due to long-term use over many years, the stone has been significantly worn down, with most sections now measuring less than 45 centimeters in height. The well is about 5 meters deep and still contains water, though it is no longer in use.

Gangshang Town: Located to the south of Nanchang, the provincial capital, Gangshang Town in Nanchang County borders Liantang Town (where the county seat is located) to the north, neighbors the Xiangtang Provincial Development Zone to the east, and lies beside the golden waterway of the Gan River to the west. It is 15 kilometers from downtown Nanchang, only 3 kilometers from the Xiangxi Railway Freight Hub—the largest railway freight station in southern Jiangxi. It takes just 40 minutes to drive to Changbei Airport. Both National Highway 105 and the Wenhou Expressway run through the town, forming a “three vertical and three horizontal” road network together with local main roads, highlighting its transportation and location advantages. The town covers a total area of 97.5 square kilometers, governs 12 administrative villages and 3 neighborhood committees, and has a total population of 46,000.
