Introduction:

Xianshan Nunnery is located on a small hill about 150 meters south of Nanhuwan Village in Youlan Town. It faces the vast Qinglan Lake to the south and is surrounded by towering ancient trees and dense bamboo groves, with winding paths leading into serene surroundings.

The name "Xianshan Nunnery" is the local customary term for the "Dongchan Temple" and all the religious buildings on Xianshan Mountain. The 1935 edition of the Nanchang County Annals also refers to it as "Xianshan Nunnery."

Legend has it that the "Dongchan Temple" was first built during the Xianheng era of Emperor Gaozong of the Tang Dynasty, dating back over 1,300 years. However, due to insufficient historical records, this cannot be confirmed. The 1935 edition of the Nanchang County Annals records that "Xianshan Nunnery" was established during the Ming Dynasty.

The "Dongchan Temple" has experienced multiple cycles of prosperity and decline, with its last destruction occurring during the Cultural Revolution. In the later period of the Cultural Revolution, the site was used as the "Nanchang County Sanatorium." After the sanatorium was relocated, the area became a religious site once again.

At Xianshan Nunnery, only one stone plaque inscribed with the words "Xianshan Chanlin" (Xianshan Buddhist Forest) in the handwriting of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty remains, embedded in the lintel above the mountain gate. All current structures were built within the past few decades.

Within Xianshan Nunnery, there are three osmanthus trees, including an ancient tree from the Qing Dynasty that is over 300 years old, lush and thriving, and has been designated as a protected tree. There are also several ancient camphor trees, most of which are over a hundred years old.

Youlan Town: Located in the southeastern suburbs of Nanchang City, by the shores of Poyang Lake, Youlan enjoys well-developed transportation. It is 20 kilometers from the city center, 15 kilometers from Liantang County, and 32 kilometers from Changbei Airport. In 1994, it was upgraded from a township to a town, and in 2001, it merged with Dutou Township. The town administers 28 village committees, 1 gardening farm, and 1 residential committee. It has 211 natural villages and 3 small towns. There are 3 middle schools, 29 primary schools, and 2 health clinics. The population is 81,000, and the area covers 110 square kilometers. In 2005, the town achieved a total fiscal revenue of 10.18 million yuan, with per capita rural income reaching 3,468 yuan.
