Liantang Revolutionary Martyrs' Memorial Tower

The Liantang Revolutionary Martyrs' Memorial Tower is a cultural relic protection unit of Nanchang County and a classic red tourism site.

The “Liantang Revolutionary Martyrs' Memorial Tower” is located within Liantang Park at the southern end of Wuyi Road in Liantang Town, Nanchang County. It serves as the central axis and the highest point of the entire park. The tower base is made of granite, covering an area of 200 square meters, with two flower stands on each of its four corners planted with lush pines and cypresses, creating a solemn and respectful atmosphere. Liantang Park covers a total area of 57 mu, with cedar and black pine trees planted all around the memorial tower.

In April 1955, the People's Government of Nanchang County established this Revolutionary Martyrs' Memorial Tower to commemorate the 56 martyrs, including Sun Feng’ao, who sacrificed their lives gloriously during the 1949 Battle of Liberating Nanchang and the 1950 Land Reform Movement. The remains of the martyrs, including Sun Feng’ao, were relocated from Xiabu and Youkou to be laid to rest under the Revolutionary Martyrs' Memorial Tower.

In June 1984, the People's Government of Nanchang County allocated 280,000 yuan to renovate the memorial monument. The current tower structure is made of granite, inlaid with marble on all sides. The tower is 13 meters high, and the inscriptions “Eternal glory to the martyrs who sacrificed for the revolutionary cause” are engraved around the tower. On the front and back (south and north) of the lower part of the tower, white marble plaques are inlaid with the inscription: “The Tomb of the Fifty-Six Comrades Including Sun Fengxiang Who Gloriously Sacrificed Their Lives in the 1949 Battle of Liberating Nanchang and the 1950 Land Reform Movement, Established April 1955.”

On January 10, 2005, the People's Government of Nanchang County listed it as part of the fourth batch of Cultural Relic Protection Units of Nanchang County.

Note: On May 21, 1949, during the battle to liberate Xiabu Town, the site of the Nationalist Nanchang County Government, 55 soldiers from the 112th and 113th Battalions of the 37th Regiment of the 13th Division of the 4th Corps of the Chinese People's Liberation Army’s Second Field Army gave their precious lives.

Sun Fengxiang, from Liaoning Province, was a member of the Communist Party of China and a cadre sent south. He once served as the organizational committee member of the 11th District of Nanchang County. On June 14, 1950, he was killed by bandits in Taizidian of the 11th District at the age of twenty.
