Hexawan Well Site

The Hexawan Well Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Nanchang County.

The "Hexawan Well Massacre Site by Japanese Invading Forces in China" is located within a vegetable field north of Hexawan Village, Xiangtang Town. It faces south and covers an area of 40 square meters. The well is square-shaped, with no remaining well curb or platform. For safety reasons, it is covered with a cement slab, leaving only a small portion exposed.

To the east of the well stands a memorial stele. The base of the stele is built with bluish-gray bricks, and inlaid above is a bluestone memorial plaque bearing the following inscription: "Account of the Hexawan Well Massacre — When the Japanese invaders entered Hexawan Village, they carried out seven lootings and killings, and three arson attacks. On March 20, 1939, the invaders herded over forty villagers to the well, forcing them at gunpoint and with bayonets to jump into the well. The bodies piled up and filled the well, after which the Japanese soldiers fired machine guns into it. Later, they also burned more than thirty villagers alive who had been held in the large building to the east. Of the village’s twenty-five households and over 150 residents, more than 130 were killed by the invaders, and eighteen families were completely wiped out. This blood debt must never be forgotten by generations to come. We must firmly remember Chairman Mao’s teaching: 'Never forget class struggle.' We must always stay vigilant and resolutely combat the aggression of imperialism, revisionism, and reactionaries, as well as the sabotage activities of a handful of counter-revolutionaries, and defend proletarian... through struggle."

Hexawan Village lies south of Xiangtang Fertilizer Plant, adjacent to Xiangtang Street. About 550 meters to the east is the Ganfu Plain Irrigation Canal, and approximately 350 meters to the west is the Beijing-Kowloon Railway (all distances measured via satellite remote sensing).

On October 27, 1983, the Nanchang County People's Government listed it as one of the first batch of Nanchang County Cultural Relic Protection Units.

Xiangtang Town: Xiangtang is a pearl embedded along the main line of the Beijing-Kowloon Railway, known as the southern gateway to Nanchang City. It has a total population of 150,000, including 90,000 urban residents, and hosts 33 central, provincial, and municipal-level institutions.
