Established in 1984, Nanchang County Museum is a comprehensive museum under the jurisdiction of the Nanchang County Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism, News, and Publication. In 2009, it was approved by the Jiangxi Provincial Department of Culture to also operate under the name Hongzhou Kiln Celadon Museum. It was designated as a National Third-Class Museum in 2013.

The Nanchang County Museum is now situated in the iconic "Nanchang County Cultural Center" building, located in the core area of Liantang Town in the county seat. This modern, fan-shaped building houses the museum on its western side, with a construction area of 3,120 square meters and an exhibition area of 2,300 square meters.

In April 2013, the Nanchang Municipal Government handed over the former Mao Zedong's Residence at No. 1 of the former Provincial Party Committee Guesthouse 828 to the management of Nanchang County Museum. The building is a single-story standalone bungalow where Chairman Mao once lived, covering an area of approximately 3,090 square meters. It features blue bricks, black tiles, a gable and hip roof, and an external corridor. The residence is divided into main and auxiliary sections, with a garden in front that has an underground air-raid shelter. The exhibition plan for Mao Zedong’s Former Residence at No. 1 of Guesthouse 828 has been completed and is currently pending approval from the relevant authorities. It will be opened to the public free of charge once approved.

The museum currently has 17 authorized staff positions, with 11 permanent employees, along with 9 temporary staff hired for guiding, operations, security, and other roles, totaling 20 personnel. The unit includes an office, a cultural relics protection group, a warehouse management group, an 828 Mao Zedong Former Residence management group, and a security group.
