Ancestral Hall of the Wan Family

The Ancestral Hall of the Wan Family is a cultural relic protection unit of Nanchang County.

The “Ancestral Hall of the Wan Family” is situated in the central part of Jintuanwanjia Natural Village, Hexi Village, Xiangtang Town, Nanchang County. Constructed in 1932, it functions as the main ancestral hall for the local Wan families. The structure features a “convex” floor plan, faces south, and measures a total width of 34 meters (the central main section is 20 meters wide) and a total depth of 27 meters (each side auxiliary hall extends 15 meters). It covers a total floor area of 750 square meters. Built with blue bricks, it employs a brick-and-timber structure, sports a hip-and-gable roof, and is topped with clay tiles. The lower parts of the walls feature red stone plinths, giving them a solid and sturdy appearance. Upon entering through the main gate is the front hall, which has a high and open interior space (currently fitted with a false ceiling), with access to the auxiliary halls on both sides. Passing through the front hall leads to the rear hall used for ancestral worship, which is spacious and solemn, with ancestral tablets placed at the back. The site holds significant value for the study of ancestral hall architecture from the Republican era.

To the south of the “Ancestral Hall of the Wan Family” lies a large open space. Approximately 100 meters to the southwest is Hexi Primary School, about 10 meters to the west is the village’s concrete road, and around 10 meters to the east and north are ordinary residential houses.

On May 7, 2010, the People’s Government of Nanchang County designated it as a Cultural Relic Protection Unit in the fifth batch of Nanchang County listings.
