Huaye Lianfang Residential House

The Huaye Lianfang Residential House is a cultural heritage site protected by Nanchang County.

The “Huaye Lianfang Residential House” is situated in the center of Wumen Natural Village, Dongyou Village, Tacheng Township, Nanchang County. It has a width of 18.7 meters, a depth of 20 meters, and a total floor area of 374 square meters. The structure features three bays in width, two courtyards in depth with one central courtyard and one side courtyard. It is a brick-and-wood residential building constructed in the late Qing Dynasty. The house faces south with a framed exterior wall; the lower section of the walls, known as the skirt shoulder, is built with regular stone slabs. The skirt shoulder and the upper sections on both sides, along with the four edges of the wall top, are fitted with corner pillars. The wall core is constructed with blue bricks in a pattern of sleeping eyes and hollowed-out forms. The roof is gabled in a herringbone style, with stepped gable walls. The door frame is made of red sandstone, with shallow carvings of flowers and plants on the brackets. The lintel is inlaid with a plaque inscribed with “Huaye Lianfang” (Floral Sepals United in Fragrance), surrounded by shallow carvings of figures from operas, the character for longevity (寿), and various auspicious motifs. The interior extends one bay in depth, with a wooden through-tenon structure inside; the through-beams are adorned with shallow carvings featuring rich content, including carvings of auspicious creatures, qilin (Chinese unicorns), and deer among symbols of fortune (福), prosperity (禄), longevity (寿), and happiness (喜). The column bases are wooden drums, resting on eight-sided stone pedestals. The partition doors are largely intact, with lattice patterns decorated with floral designs and geometric shapes. The courtyard is paved with stone slabs, while the main hall is floored with rammed earth. The north gate of the auxiliary building is inlaid with a plaque reading “Yong Wei Zheng Shi” (Forever an Official Residence). The external walls and door hood of the “Huaye Lianfang Residential House” are generally well-preserved, and the main internal wooden framework is mostly intact, though some parts show damage. Some wooden components are worn, and a small portion of the roof tiles are damaged, leading to minor leaks. This building features exquisite wood carvings and rich cultural content, making it an important physical resource for studying the development and evolution of traditional residences.

To the south of the residence is a small courtyard; to the east, across an alleyway, is another residence. There are small alleys to the west and north. The house is 80 meters away from the village road to the north.

On May 7, 2010, the Nanchang County People's Government listed it as part of the fifth batch of Nanchang County Cultural Heritage Protection Units.
