Former Site of Nanchang County Government

The Former Site of Nanchang County Government is a cultural heritage site protected by Nanchang County.

The “Former Site of Nanchang County Government” is located about 1.5 kilometers east of Yuancun Village, Bayi Township, Nanchang County (northwest of Xiebu Street), originally built in 1928 as a Catholic church by French (some say Dutch) missionaries. It is situated at the junction of the Lian (Tang)–Xie (Bu) and Luo (Jiaji) roads, with the Xiebu Brick and Tile Factory to the north and a tributary of the Fu River to the east.

The former site faces south and covers an area of 650 square meters. It features a brick-and-stone structure with grayish-blue bricks and mortar. The southern side has arched brick corbels made of blue bricks. The main building has two stories, with wooden floors and staircases, and a herringbone beam wooden frame topped with a tiled roof. A three-story tower on the eastern side features a high decorative wall on its southern face, showcasing a typical European architectural style.

The building served as the office of the Nanchang County People’s Government in September 1948. In 1954, the county government moved to its current location in Liantang Town, after which the building was used as a school, detention center, and for other purposes. It has been abandoned since 2002.

The site currently remains the property of the Catholic Church in Nanchang City.

On January 10, 2005, the Nanchang County People’s Government designated it as part of the fourth batch of Nanchang County Cultural Heritage Protection Units.
