Building No. 1 of the Bayi’erba Guesthouse
Building No. 1 of the Bayi’erba Guesthouse is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.
The site of “Building No. 1 of the Former Bayi’erba Guesthouse” is located within the former Jiangxi Provincial Committee Bayi’erba Guesthouse at Gaofangling, facing east. On August 28, 1969, the Jiangxi Provincial Committee built a dedicated guesthouse in Nanchang County to receive central ——, abbreviated as the “Bayi’erba Guesthouse.” Chairman Mao stayed in Building No. 1 on multiple occasions. In 1971, Chairman Mao successively received senior military region —— such as Xu Shiyou, Han Xianchu, and Cheng Shiqing, as well as some provincial party secretaries at the Bayi’erba Guesthouse. He put forward the important “Three Dos and Three Don’ts” directive: “Uphold Marxism, not revisionism; uphold unity, not 0-; uphold openness and aboveboard conduct, not scheming and conspiracy.” This exposed the Lin Biao clique’s plot to usurp the Party and seize power, prompting the clique to desperately accelerate their —— plans. Ultimately, the complete downfall of the Lin Biao —— group was proclaimed 13 days later with the outbreak of the “9.13” incident.
Building No. 1 of the Bayi’erba Guesthouse was originally Building No. 1 of the former Jiangxi Provincial Committee 828 Guesthouse (now the Nanchang Cuilin Golf Resort Hotel). It covers an area of approximately 2,000 square meters and is a single-story (with a basement) brick-and-wood structure building. The walls are 65 centimeters thick, and the interior height is 4.7 meters. The internal layout is complex, resembling a maze. It still preserves historical features such as the “Former Residence of Chairman Mao,” the “Meeting Venue of East China Provincial Party Secretaries,” the “—— Bedroom,” as well as the living quarters of guards and medical personnel.
The main entrance of the site faces east and was the parking area for Chairman Mao’s Red Flag limousine, with a small side door also available for access. Upon entering and turning south, one passes through a short corridor to a square activity room, where a ping-pong table is placed on one side—it was where Chairman Mao exercised. To the west of the activity room is a door that, after passing two adjacent bathrooms, leads directly to the meeting venue of the East China Provincial Party Secretaries.
The venue is rectangular, furnished with several fabric sofas, and three large portraits of Chairman Mao hang on the walls.
To the south of the venue is a long horizontal corridor, with double doors at both ends. The east door leads outside, while the west door opens to the garden and also provides access to an underground secret passage from one side.
South of the corridor is an enclosed square courtyard. To the west of the courtyard is a longitudinal corridor, and to the east, separated by another longitudinal corridor, are the living quarters of guards and medical staff.
South of the courtyard is another horizontal corridor. The west door of the corridor leads directly to a semi-circular rest platform, and stairs lead down to the garden.
To the south of the corridor are Chairman Mao’s bedroom and bathroom, the —— bedroom and bathroom, and a small reception room. The south wall of the small reception room has a door that opens to the garden.
The garden is planted with peach, pear, wintersweet, and camphor trees.
On May 7, 2010, the Nanchang County People’s Government listed it as a Cultural Relic Protection Unit of Nanchang County (Fifth Batch).
On December 29, 2011, the Nanchang Municipal People’s Government listed it as a Cultural Relic Protection Unit of Nanchang City (Fourth Batch).
