Huangmen Duyan Stone Memorial Archway

The Huangmen Duyan Stone Memorial Archway is a cultural relic protection unit of Nanchang City.

The “Huangmen Duyan Stone Memorial Archway” is located in the central part of Luosha Xia Wei Village, Youlan Town (formerly Dutou Township), facing south. The stone archway is a two-story, symmetrical pavilion-style structure with three tiers of projecting bays, featuring four pillars and three bays, integrated with the adjacent residence. All four pillars are square (chamfered) red sandstone, with hexagonal carvings on the capitals and decorative stone bases beneath. Between the two central pillars, there is an additional red sandstone door frame, with dougong brackets on the left and right at the top and a threshold at the bottom. Between the door frame and the central pillars, as well as between the central and side pillars, grayish-blue bricks are laid, with red sandstone blocks at the bottom. In front of the gate are four steps made of stone. Between the four pillars are three-tiered red sandstone memorial arches, carved with figures, flowers, animals, or geometric patterns. The central red sandstone arch bears the four large seal characters “黄门都谏” (Huangmen Duyan) inscribed in relief on the right, with the text “皇明万历二年岁在甲戍闰十二月吉旦巡抚江西賛理军务都察院右副都御史徐斌刘尧论巡按江西监察御史陈志成守印胡纶为” also on the right; on the left is inscribed “赐进士刑科都给事中魏元吉”. The side arches feature three-tiered brick structures imitating Dougong brackets, topped with upturned clay tiles. The central arch has a four-tiered brick Dougong imitation structure with upturned clay tiles, and in the middle of the brick Dougong is a vertically placed engraved tablet with the characters “恩荣” (Enrong) in seal script.

This ancient residential site’s stone archway is a typical example of late Ming style and serves as valuable physical material for the study of memorial archway architecture and stone carving art in the Nanchang area.

On October 27, 1983, the Nanchang County People's Government listed it as one of the first batch of cultural relic protection units of Nanchang County.

On December 29, 2011, the Nanchang Municipal People's Government listed it as one of the fourth batch of cultural relic protection units of Nanchang City.
