Guide:

Guling got its name because the ridge resembles a buffalo (牯牛, "gǔniú"). In the late 19th century, British missionary John Littledale entered the mountains and leased the Changchong area of Guniuling. He built residential villas here, gradually developing the area. Due to its cool climate, he transliterated “Cooling” from English and abbreviated Guniuling to Guling.

The mountain town is divided into eastern and western valleys by Guniuling, covered by lush green pines and crimson maples. Exotic villas are dotted among the greenery, blending harmoniously with the surrounding environment.

Highlights:

Guling features flat terrain, verdant peaks, and murmuring streams. Nearly a thousand uniquely styled villas from various countries are built along the slopes, scattered at different elevations in an elegant and graceful layout — a rare high-mountain architectural landscape in China.

Introduction:

Originally named Guniuling, Guling is the heart of Mount Lu. Surrounded by mountains on three sides and facing a valley on one, it sits at an elevation of 1,164 meters and covers an area of 46.6 square kilometers. It is a fairy-tale-like mountain town. Not only is it the service center for tourism, healthcare, and recuperation on Mount Lu, but it also serves as the transportation hub to various scenic spots and attractions.
