Minshan Township’s Jinping Village is located at the junction of Jiujiang, Dean, and Ruichang counties. The village has 246 households and a population of 1,016, making it one of the six major impoverished mountain villages in Jiujiang County. Since ancient times, local villagers have relied on the mountains for their livelihood, making full use of the unique geographical environment and climate to develop tea production as one of their key economic sources of survival.

In the early 1970s, the village newly established over 200 acres of collective tea gardens, adding to the existing scattered tea gardens of 240 acres, totaling 480 acres. The natural, healthy, and eco-friendly Jinping Cloud Mist Tea boasts excellent quality and a refreshing taste. It has been recognized multiple times as a high-quality product by provincial and municipal authorities. In 2002, it was designated within the protected origin area of Lushan Cloud Mist Tea. However, for many years, Jinping suffered from poor transportation, limited information access, outdated tea processing techniques, and intense market competition, which led to stagnant tea production efficiency. This caused the tea gardens to age and become overgrown, while villagers’ enthusiasm for tea cultivation and development also declined. Many households converted their tea gardens to other cash crops.

At the end of 1999, the village committee held a meeting with village representatives and decided to publicly tender the management rights of 150 acres of collective tea gardens. Faced with overgrown tea gardens, dilapidated factory buildings, and equipment, no one showed interest. To motivate farmers to engage in tea production, increase their income, and gradually expand the cultivation of tea as the village’s specialty cash crop, the village committee director took the initiative to contract the abandoned tea garden, becoming a pioneer in leading tea farmers toward prosperity. Over the years, he invested over 100,000 yuan to renovate the tea gardens, improve tea varieties, replace tea processing equipment, and introduce advanced production techniques and technologies. As a result, Jinping Cloud Mist Tea, which had previously suffered from poor sales and low quality, regained its vitality and gradually developed its own distinctive products.

Thanks to the improvement of tea varieties and production techniques, Jinping Cloud Mist Tea now features a rich aroma and long-lasting brew, winning widespread favor among consumers. Villagers’ enthusiasm for tea planting has increased, and tea production has become a highlight of economic income growth for the entire village. In the spring of 2007 alone, the village produced 3,000 jin of dried tea, generating sales revenue of over 200,000 yuan, with an average income increase of nearly 1,000 yuan per household. To develop this distinctive premium product of our village, we will take “building a brand and ensuring quality” as our starting point. Leveraging the tourism brand advantage of Lushan Cloud Mist Tea and further expanding sales channels, we will rely on the unique mountainous advantages of our village, liberate our thinking, strengthen our confidence, promote farmers’ income growth, and drive economic development.
