It is also a sacred cultural mountain that embodies scenery, culture, religion, education, and politics. Throughout history, countless literati and artists have climbed Mount Lu, praising its enchanting natural landscapes and rich cultural heritage, leaving behind tens of thousands of poems and verses. These timeless lines, deeply connected to Mount Lu, have become classic works in Chinese literary history, like slow-burning embers that simmer the mountain, leaving behind an ever-enduring spark of civilization.
Mount Lu offers scenic views in all four seasons, with diverse landscapes: In spring, green trees and delicate flowers bloom, with moss creeping up the steps; in summer, the evening tide arrives with rain, and mist fills the valleys; in autumn, the high mountains are capped with light clouds, and the autumn waters mirror the blue sky; in winter, frosted forests and snowy grasslands are draped in silvery white. Each peak has its own distinctive features—Hanpo Ridge resembles a fish’s backbone, majestic, magnificent, shrouded in thick clouds, vast and imposing, like galloping horses or coiling dragons, standing as a screen to the southeast of Mount Lu. The Five Elders Peaks boast a grand, steep, and rugged landscape, rooted in Poyang Lake, with their five summits reaching the sky. Viewed from below, they resemble five elderly men sitting cross-legged. The waters of Mount Lu are also uniquely beautiful—the Three-Step Waterfall is described as "the upper tier like drifting clouds trailing silk ribbons, the middle tier like crushed stones breaking ice, and the lower tier like a jade dragon darting through the pool." Ancient scholars said: "The green pines of Mount Tai, the cloud-kissing peaks of Mount Hua, the sea of clouds at Huangshan, and the waterfalls of Kuanglu (Mount Lu)—all are celebrated as the most breathtaking wonders of nature." Mirror-like Ruqin Lake, shaped like a musical instrument, boasts crystal-clear waters, with winding bridges, pavilions, and flower-lined paths that captivate the heart. On Mount Lu, nature and human craftsmanship have merged into a magnificent whole. If Sima Qian’s Records of the Grand Historian unfolds a long scroll of human history for Mount Lu, then masters such as Wu Daozi, Tang Yin, Shitao, Zhou Dunyi, Wang Anshi, and Zhu Xi are the painters and calligraphers of this scroll. Through the passage of time, a sacred mountain representing the great spiritual world of a nation has emerged layer upon layer.
In 2012, to further promote Mount Lu nationwide and showcase its beauty through the art of photography, the Administrative Bureau of Lushan Mountain Scenic Area of Jiangxi Province and the China Photographers Association jointly organized, and Beijing Zhongwai Mingren International Public Relations Planning Co., Ltd. hosted, the 2012 "Dream of Mount Lu, Sentiments of China" National Photography Art Exhibition. The exhibition, themed “Dreams of Lushan, Sentiments of China,” uses photography to reflect the natural scenery and cultural history of Lushan, showcasing its landscape resources and diverse culture.
2. Submission Period
From June 20, 2012, to February 28, 2013 (based on date of receipt).
3. Number of Submissions and Prize Settings:
Gold Award Works 2 pieces Prize of 20,000 yuan each
Silver Award Works 8 pieces Prize of 5,000 yuan each
Bronze Award Works 12 pieces Prize of 2,000 yuan each
Honorable Mention Works 120 pieces Prize of 100 yuan each
The same author may win any number of Honorable Mention Works, but may not receive more than one tiered award. All winners will be awarded certificates of honor, which may also serve as one of the qualifications for applying to join the China Photographers Association. Personal income tax on prize money will be withheld and remitted by the organizer.
In addition, four “Most Popular Online Images” will be selected via online voting by netizens, with a prize of 1,000 yuan each.
4. Submission Guidelines
1. Photographers and photography enthusiasts from China and abroad are welcome to submit works.
2. Works must depict scenes within the Lushan Scenic Area. Documentary-style submissions are encouraged, while artistic or digitally created works are also accepted. Original and creative works are preferred. There is no limit on the number of submissions. Both color and black-and-white images are acceptable, but photo series are not accepted.
3. Submission method: Online submission only.
Submitted files must be in JPEG format with a long side of 1024 pixels (please retain the original data file for technical evaluation and exhibition photo production). Use “Author’s Name + Work Title” as the image file name.
4. After a work is selected for exhibition, the organizer will collect the high-resolution data file from the author for exhibition and album production (TIF format no less than 30MB, JPG compressed file no less than 4MB). Authors must submit their digital files (for film works, please scan the negatives) within the specified time. Failure to submit on time will be considered as automatic withdrawal.
5. Selected works will be subject to public display. They will be displayed on the website of the China Photographers Association for one week prior to official announcement for public supervision. If any selected work is found to violate the rules stated in this call for entries, upon verification, the organizer will disqualify it.
6. The organizer has the right to use the works for non-commercial purposes such as publishing albums, holding exhibitions, and related promotions, without providing additional compensation.
7. Entries from members of the organizing committee and jury of this event, as well as their relatives, are not accepted. Submitters must ensure they hold independent, complete, and unambiguous copyright to their submitted works. Any legal disputes arising from a failure to meet this requirement shall be the sole responsibility of the submitter.
8. All submitters are deemed to agree and comply with the above regulations. The organizer reserves the right to disqualify any work that has copyright issues or does not meet the requirements of the call for entries (e.g., those that may seriously mislead public understanding), revoke the work’s prize and honor certificate, and announce the disqualification through media.
9. The right to interpret these submission guidelines belongs to the organizer.
V. Work Evaluation
Gold, silver, bronze award-winning and outstanding works will be selected by photography experts and scholars organized by the China Photographers Association. The “Most Popular Photo by Netizens” will be chosen through online voting.
