“The peerless beauty of Kuanglu tops all mountains under heaven.” Lushan is a world-renowned mountain that embodies grandeur, wonder, peril, and beauty, and is even more a sacred cultural mountain integrating scenery, culture, religion, education, and politics. Throughout history, countless literati and poets have climbed Lushan, praising its enchanting natural landscapes and extolling its rich cultural heritage, leaving behind tens of thousands of poems and verses. These timeless lines, intimately tied to Lushan, have become classics in Chinese literary heritage, passed down through the ages like a slow fire simmering over the mountain, leaving behind an enduring spark of civilization.
Lushan offers scenic views in all four seasons, with landscapes that vary remarkably: In spring, there are lush green trees and secluded flowers, with moss creeping up the steps; in summer, there are rain-kissed evening tides and misty valleys; in autumn, there are lofty mountains with light clouds and azure waters reflecting the blue sky; in winter, there are frosted forests, grassy snowscapes, and a world wrapped in silver. Each of its peaks has its own distinctive features—Hanpo Ridge resembles a fish’s spine, majestic, splendid, shrouded in thick clouds and fog, vast and boundless, its momentum like galloping horses or coiling dragons, standing as a screen-like boundary to the southeast of Lushan. The Five Elders Peak is imposing and rugged throughout, rooted to Poyang Lake, with the tips of its five peaks reaching the sky—when you look up, they resemble five elderly men sitting cross-legged on the ground. The water of Lushan is also marvelously beautiful. The Three-Step Waterfall is described as: “The upper tier drifts like clouds trailing silk ribbons, the middle tier crashes like shattered stones crushing ice, and the lower tier flows like a jade dragon coursing through a pool.” The ancients said: “The green pines of Mount Tai, the cliffs of Mount Hua, the sea of clouds at Huangshan, and the waterfalls of Kuanglu are collectively known as the most spectacular sights of mountains and rivers.” Mirror-like Rúqín Lake, shaped like a musical instrument, has clear and pristine waters. Within the lake are winding bridges, pavilions, and flower-lined paths, making it a truly enchanting sight. At Lushan, nature and human artistry have blended into a grand harmony. If Sima Qian’s Records of the Grand Historian unfolds the long scroll of Lushan’s humanistic history, then masters such as Wu Daozi, Tang Yin, Shitao, Zhou Dunyi, Wang Anshi, and Zhu Xi are the painters and calligraphers of this scroll. Through the passage of history, a mountain symbolizing the great spiritual world of a nation has risen layer upon layer.

In 2012, to further promote Lushan across the nation and showcase its beauty comprehensively through the art of photography, the Lushan Scenic Area Administration of Jiangxi Province and the China Photographers Association jointly organized, and Beijing Zhongwai Mingren International Public Relations Planning Co., Ltd. hosted, the 2012 “Lushan Dreams · China Sentiments” National Photography Art Exhibition. We sincerely invite photographers and photography enthusiasts from home and abroad, as well as netizens, to pick up their cameras and capture her natural beauty, historical depth, and cultural charm through the lens.
