Site of the Lushan Plenum & Lushan Villa Architectural Complex

The Site of the Lushan Plenum and the Lushan Villa Architectural Complex are National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units and classic red tourism sites.

The Site of the Lushan Plenum is located at the foot of Zhibi Peak in the eastern valley of Guling. Originally one of the three main buildings constructed by Chiang Kai-shek for his military training camp on Lushan, it was completed in 1937 and named the Lushan Grand Auditorium. After liberation, it was renamed “People’s Theater,” featuring a grand exterior and luxurious interior. The Eighth Plenum of the Eighth Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 1959, the 1961 Central Work Conference, and the Ninth Plenum of the Eighth Central Committee in 1970 were all held here. Comrade Mao Zedong presided over these three significant meetings.

Lushan Plenum Memorial Hall: The site has now been converted into the Lushan Plenum Memorial Hall. It houses many precious artifacts, photographs, documents from that time, as well as videos produced based on historical documentaries.

Lushan Building: Located not far to the right of the memorial hall. Originally housing for mid- and lower-ranking officers of the Kuomintang military training camp, the front plaque once bore four large characters written by Chiang Kai-shek: “Lushan Chuanxi Xueshe” (Lushan Study House). It has now been renovated into a tourist hotel with standard guest rooms. A palatial-style building located between the plenum site and the building is the Lushan Library, completed in 1935, which now serves as a shopping mall and restaurant.

Guided Tours:

Located at the foot of Zhibi Peak in the eastern valley of Guling. It preserves many valuable artifacts, photographs, materials from that era, as well as video recordings based on documentaries, available for visitors to view.

The “Lushan Building” not far to the right is a reinforced concrete structure with four floors on the outside and six inside. It originally housed mid- and lower-ranking officers of the military training camp, and the front plaque once featured four large characters written by Chiang Kai-shek: “Lushan Chuanxi Xueshe.”

Transportation

Bus:

Within Lushan, you can take an east-route sightseeing bus. An 80-yuan ticket is valid for one week, and a 150-yuan ticket is valid for one month.

On Foot:

If starting from Guling Town on Lushan, the town is quite small, so walking is also an option. The walk usually takes no more than 30 minutes, and you’ll pass by Meilu and the Story of the Old Villas along the way.

Ticket

Starting March 15, 2015, the core scenic area of Lushan implemented a “single-ticket” system for the main entrance. This attraction is included in the general scenic area ticket, so no separate ticket is required. Prior to this, the Site of the Lushan Plenum required a separate admission fee of 50 yuan.
