Xiaotianchi is located to the north of Guling on Mount Lu. The water in the pool sits high in the mountains yet never overflows or dries up all year round. Behind the pool, on the mountain ridge, stands a lama pagoda resembling a white pagoda. The pagoda was built in 1936.

Opposite the Xiaotianchi mountain, there is also a peculiar rock that looks from afar like an eagle stretching its neck and ready to cry out. The eagle’s head is formed by huge stacked rocks, with one stone jutting out from the eagle’s beak cliff. Green trees in the crevices sway like feathers, and it's called Sparrowhawk Beak. On the southern foot of the mountain, there is a peak that juts out boldly into the air, overlooking a deep ravine. At the cliff on top of the peak stands a round pavilion with an umbrella-like roof. Stepping into the pavilion, the Yangtze River appears like a white silk ribbon fluttering in the distance. At the mountain’s base lies a deep valley shaped like an open pair of scissors, named Scissors Gorge. The stream in the gorge babbles softly, surrounded by verdant pines and bamboos, with grotesque rocks dotting the landscape — a scene of serene beauty.

Xiaotianchi is the best spot on Guling to watch the sunrise, sunset glow, and sea of clouds. Ascending to the mountaintop feels like boarding a helicopter, hovering above Mount Lu. The green mountains, clear waters, red tiles, and gray cliffs are all vividly in sight, sparking boundless reverie.
