Xiufeng

Xiufeng is located at the southern foot of Mount Lu, within Xingzi County by the shores of Poyang Lake in Jiangxi Province. The peaks around Xiufeng are delicate and picturesque, with enchanting scenery. As the ancients said, “The beauty of Mount Lu lies in its southern part, and the beauty of the southern part lies in Xiufeng.”

The scenic area mainly consists of peaks such as Xianglu (Incense Burner), Heming (Crane’s Cry), Shuangjian (Twin Swords), Jiemei (Sisters), Wenshu (Manjusri), and Guibei (Tortoise Back). It includes attractions such as the Shuyu Pavilion, Yu Xia (Jade Gorge), Longtan (Dragon Pool), waterfalls, Guanpu Pavilion (Waterfall Viewing Pavilion), Rizhao Pavilion (Sunlight Pavilion), and many other sites. There are also numerous historical relics left by celebrated figures. The famous Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai’s poem “Viewing the Waterfall at Mount Lu” — “Sunlight streaming on Incense Stone kindles a violet smoke; / Far off I watch the waterfall plunge to the long river; / Flying waters descending straight three thousand feet, / Till I think the Milky Way has tumbled from the ninth height of Heaven!” — has made Xiufeng widely known for a long time.

Xiufeng is situated in Xingzi County at the southern foot of Mount Lu. After returning from Guanyin Bridge to Wuligongshe, follow the De’an–Xingzi Highway southwest for five or six kilometers, and you will see the emerald-green, mountain-ringed Xiufeng.

Xiufeng is composed of peaks including Heming (Crane’s Cry), Shuangjian (Twin Swords), Jiemei (Sisters), Xianglu (Incense Burner), Wenshu (Manjusri), and Guibei (Tortoise Back). Heming Peak resembles a flying crane; Shuangjian Peak looks like lotus flowers piercing the sky; Xianglu Peak is shaped like swirling purple smoke; Jiemei Peak appears like graceful maidens; Wenshu Peak stands like a pointed cone; and Guibei Peak’s ridge stretches like a tortoise moving through the clouds. These peaks are varied in form, exquisitely delicate, layered with flowing greenery, and full of enchanting scenery, embodying the utmost beauty of the southern part of Mount Lu. Hence, the ancients said, “The beauty of Mount Lu lies in its southern part, and the beauty of the southern part lies in Xiufeng.”

There is a mythical legend about Jiemei Peak. It is said that in ancient times, there were two fishing sisters who were often captivated by the scenery of Xiufeng while fishing on Poyang Lake, to the point that they forgot to cast their nets. One day, the sisters came to Xiufeng on a bright spring day, climbed up the mountain, and were determined to pick the “Jade Lotus” in the “Dragon Pool” on Shuangjian Peak. Along the way, they picked flowers and chased butterflies but accidentally wandered into a fairy mountain, where they were taken as disciples by the Jade Immortal Maiden and lived in the immortal realm. Later, missing their hometown and family dearly, the sisters transformed into the Jiemei Peak, which looks like two sisters walking hand in hand, seemingly running toward Poyang Lake when viewed from afar.

Transportation

Every day at 2:00 PM, there is a bus from Guling Town to Xiufeng; if you take a train to Jiujiang, you can take Bus No. 1 to get there, just 3 or 4 stops to Jiujiang Long-Distance Bus Station. Then take a bus to Xingzi (the ticket to Xingzi is available at Window 1 in the waiting hall for 8 yuan), which takes about 1 hour, and you can enjoy a distant view of Mount Lu’s Five Elders Peaks along the way. Once you arrive, transfer to a local minibus or Tourism Line 1 for just 1 yuan to reach Xiufeng.

63 yuan; round-trip cable car 60 yuan (children under 1.1m in height are free; seniors over 70 with ID, and active-duty military personnel are free; children between 1.1m and 1.4m in height pay a child fare of 35 yuan)
