In 1934, Xiong Shihui, Chairman of the Jiangxi Provincial Government, built this temporary palace at the former site of Kuangshan Thatched Cottage in Guanyin Bridge to flatter Chiang Kai-shek, providing him a residence when he visited Mount Lu. Chiang Kai-shek was very satisfied with the scenery at Guanyin Bridge and often liked to stay here during his time on Mount Lu. After the Xi’an Incident in 1936, Chiang Kai-shek came here to recuperate from a foot injury.

In December 1937, as the Japanese invaded Nanjing, Chiang Kai-shek came here after organizing the city’s defenses.
