Attraction Introduction

A vast gap is formed between Hanpuling and the opposite Hanyang Peak, giving the impression of a giant mouth about to scoop up all the water of Poyang Lake at the mountain’s base — hence the name. Hanpokou is one of the famous sunrise viewing spots on Mount Lu. At dawn, the first light shimmers over Poyang Lake, blending sky and water as one, and a red sun rises from the lake, casting golden rays in all directions. In an instant, the lake and sky turn crimson, and half the landscape becomes a resplendent, magnificent painting.

To the west of Hanpokou lies the famous glacial horn “Litoujian,” which resembles a sharp plowshare plowing through the boundless sea of clouds. Opposite Hanpokou is Mount Lu’s highest peak, “Hanyang Peak,” to the north is the second highest peak, “Dayueshan,” and to the south is the third highest peak, “Wulao Peak.” At the mountain’s base lies China’s largest freshwater lake, “Poyang Lake.” The shimmering lake and majestic peaks vie in beauty.

On Hanpuling stands a square pavilion, the prime spot on Mount Lu for watching the sunrise — “Wangpu Pavilion.” Ascend the pavilion in the faint morning light, and as you lean on the railing, you’ll see the horizon turning a pale fish-belly white. Soon, golden rays fill the sky over Poyang Lake, purple clouds rise, and suddenly, the rising sun bursts forth from the misty lake surface, dyeing the blue sky, green waters, and nearby and distant mountains red — a truly spectacular sight.

No separate ticket required. Included in the main scenic area admission. Mount Lu Scenic Area Ticket: Off-season (Dec 1 – Mar 31) 135 RMB; Peak season (Apr 1 – Nov 31) 180 RMB. An additional 45 RMB fee per vehicle for cars.
