Exhibition Room of Bai Juyi’s Thatched Cottage

Bai Juyi’s Thatched Cottage is located in Huajing Park within the Lushan Scenic Area in Jiangxi. In 1988, the “Exhibition Room of Bai Juyi’s Thatched Cottage” was built in the park, and in 1996, a stone statue of Bai Juyi created by the renowned sculptor Wang Keqing was erected by the lake. On a horizontal stone slab in Huajing Pavilion are engraved the characters “花径” (Huajing, meaning Flower Path), which are said to be written by Bai Juyi himself.

The Exhibition Room of Bai Juyi’s Thatched Cottage was built in 1988, reconstructed entirely according to the architectural style described in Bai Juyi’s “Record of the Thatched Cottage on Mount Lu”: “a five-beam, three-room thatched cottage with stone steps, hanging pillars, and bamboo-woven walls.” It faces south, features a wooden structure, and has a thatched roof. It showcases the evolution of the cottage. A over two-meter-tall statue of Bai Juyi, carved in 1996 by the celebrated sculptor Wang Keqing, stands in front of the cottage. Covering an area of 65 square meters, the cottage recreates the poetic scenery of a simple bamboo-fenced hut with thatched roof.
