The White Deer Grotto Scenic Area is located at the southern foot of the Five Elders Peaks of Mount Lu, at the northeastern end of the southern Mount Lu scenic area, right next to Jiuxing Highway. The area mainly consists of the White Deer Grotto Academy—one of the four major surviving academies from the Song Dynasty in China—and the Haihui Temple, one of the five great Buddhist monasteries of Mount Lu, along with attractions such as Lingxiao Cave and Papaya Cave. Its highlights include viewing historical and cultural academy ruins, ancient temples, stone carvings, and other cultural landscapes. Natural attractions feature the towering and majestic Five Elders Peaks as the main scenic element, exploring natural caves, enjoying beautiful pastoral scenery, and taking in the panoramic views of lake and mountain vistas. The White Deer Grotto Academy is situated 9 kilometers north of Xingzi County, nestled in a valley at the foot of the Five Elders Peaks of Mount Lu, backed by Houpingshan Mountain to the rear, flanked by Zuoyi Mountain to the west, and facing Beier Mountain to the south. It earned the name "White Deer Grotto" because during the Tang Dynasty, Li Bo lived here in seclusion while studying and once kept a deer.
