Cijing Pavilion is located on a small hilltop behind Huanglong Temple at the foot of Yuping Peak on Mount Lu. In the 15th year of the Wanli era during the Ming Dynasty, Emperor Shenzong of Ming ordered the Ministry of Works to print 41 additional volumes of scriptures to be added to the Buddhist canon, along with the previously carved 637 volumes, which were then bestowed upon Huanglong Temple in commemoration of Empress Dowager Xiaosu. In recognition of this event, the temple’s abbot, Shi Chekong, built the pavilion. Inside the pavilion stands a stone stele inscribed with Emperor Shenzong’s “Edict for the Protection of the Scriptures…”
