Mao Zedong’s Former Residence on Mount Lu

Mao Zedong’s Former Residence on Mount Lu is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

Mao Zedong’s Former Residence on Mount Lu is located at No. 1, Lulin, Lushan Scenic Area, Lushan City, Jiujiang.

Situated by Lulin Lake on Mount Lu, it was built in 1961 and is commonly known as the Lulin No. 1 Villa. The main structure of the villa is a courtyard combining Chinese and Western architectural styles, with a floor area of 2,700 square meters and covering a total area of over 20,000 square meters. During the 1961 Lushan Working Conference of the CPC Central Committee and the 1970 2nd Plenary Session of the 9th CPC Central Committee, Comrade Mao Zedong lived and worked here. The former residence was converted into the Lushan Museum in 1984. The bedroom where Comrade Mao Zedong worked and lived has been preserved in its original state for visitors to view and for educational purposes.

In 1993, the people of Mount Lu built the Mao Zedong Poetry Monument Garden at the northern end of Lulin Lake to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Mao Zedong’s birth.

Mao Zedong’s Former Residence on Mount Lu and the Mao Zedong Poetry Monument Garden serve as bases for revolutionary tradition education and are also important cultural and tourist attractions on Mount Lu.

Protected area: bounded by the cultural relic building itself, extending east to the foot of the mountain, west to the courtyard gate, south to the surrounding wall, and north to the foot of the back hill. Area: 5,800 square meters.
