Drunken Stone Pavilion Stone Carvings

The Drunken Stone Pavilion is located at the foot of the southern slope of Mount Lu, beneath Tiger Claw Rock. It was a place where Tao Yuanming, a poet of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, would come to drink and roam. Originally a study hall, there was a Washing Collar Pool to the west of the pavilion, with a waterfall cascading down from above. In the pool lies a massive rock, as large as a small house, with a flat and smooth top. After resigning from his official post and returning to farming, Tao Yuanming lived in seclusion here. When drunk, he would lie on this rock, which came to be known as the Drunken Stone, and it was here that he composed his famous "Ode to Returning Home."
