Tiyun Ridge

The Tiyun Ridge Scenic Area is located south of Yujing Peak. It showcases the distinctive features of Sanqing Mountain: precipitous in the east, rugged in the west, elegant in the north, and precipitous again in the south—this “precipitous in the south” mainly refers to the Tiyun Ridge Scenic Area. The area is filled with a forest of stone peaks and steep cliffs, some resembling humans, some beasts, and others objects, presenting a myriad of shapes and an extraordinary wonderland. Five out of the famous “Ten Wonders of Sanqing” are located within this scenic area: “Goddess Guanyin Appreciating Music,” “Taoist Monk Worshiping the Moon,” “Hidden Serpent Revealing Its Tail,” “Goddess of Spring,” and “Emerging Giant Serpent.”

To the east of Nantianmen Gate lies “Yutai” (Jade Terrace), a plateau situated high in the mountains at an elevation of 1,500 meters and covering an area of about one mu. Towering pines grow densely on the terrace, surrounded by a forest of high peaks. It offers spectacular views for watching sunrises, admiring sunsets, and viewing sea of clouds. Sometimes, the miraculous “Light of the Castle” can also be seen here.

“Goddess Guanyin Appreciating Music,” also known as “Goddess Guanyin Listening to the Pipa,” is located near Xiayu Bridge and consists of three peaks—one resembles a pipa, another a monk, and the third depicts Goddess Guanyin sitting gracefully and serenely, listening to the “monk playing the pipa.” “Goddess of Spring,” also called the “Goddess” Peak, is located east of Yutai. It is shaped like an elegant maiden sitting cross-legged atop the rock, with long hair draped over her shoulders, delicate features, holding a pine tree in her arms, and gazing at the mountain landscape as if enchanted by its beauty. “Emerging Giant Serpent,” also known as “Giant Serpent Peak,” is located in a secluded valley beneath Yuhuangding (Jade Emperor Summit). Its formation is even more peculiar—a 126-meter-high stone pillar with a diameter of about 10 meters stands upright in the mountains. The top is slightly wider and slightly curved, resembling a giant serpent proudly rising, with an incredibly lifelike form. Visitors who see these wonders all marvel at nature’s extraordinary craftsmanship, calling them rare and marvelous sights.

Within the Tiyun Ridge Scenic Area, there are also dynamic sights such as the “Three Dragons Emerging from the Sea,” the “Myriad Tablet Peaks Worshipping Heaven” with their towering cliffs, the “Twin Swords Piercing the Sky” with blades thrusting into the air, the affectionate “Sending Off the Son to Battle,” the humorous “Fox Stealing a Chicken,” as well as Tianmen Peak, Torch Peak, Solitary Beauty Peak, Coiled Serpent Peak, Penguin Stone, Spirit Turtle Stone, Lotus Stone, Magpie Stone, and many others. These formations are diverse in shape, vividly realistic and full of life, making them endlessly fascinating and deeply enchanting.
