Hikers, the wait is over！Yushan reopens on March 1 after a one-month closure for rest

After a one-month closure, Yushan will once again welcome hikers, reopening access to the main peak and the peaks trail. The Yushan National Park Headquarters stated that in order to reduce human impact and damage to the natural ecological environment, a one-month "mountain purification – mountain reverence – mountain rest – mountain reopening" initiative was carried out. This not only allows Yushan to recover but also promotes safe hiking practices.

The Yushan Management Office noted that the peak hiking season runs from April to October each year. The Paiyun Lodge can accommodate only 92 people per day, yet over 2,000 people sign up and enter the lottery on holidays. For example, in 2016, the highest number of registrations reached 3,648 at once, with a winning probability as low as 2.52%. It is recommended that the public consider visiting during the off-season instead.

In addition, with the reopening of Yushan, to prevent accidents, police and fire units have implemented controls on hiking activities. Hikers are required to carry devices with navigation and positioning capabilities as well as emergency communication equipment, and to be accompanied by professional leaders with emergency rescue skills, as well as to have mountain comprehensive insurance coverage.
