The thrill of constant motion ahead: Dubai revives plans for a rotating skyscraper

Dubai’s skyline, especially in terms of novelty and futuristic design, is certainly no less impressive than that of other countries—but now the city is toying with the idea of building a rotating skyscraper, which is truly intriguing.

According to the Lonely Planet website,this project was actually proposed as early as 2008 but was put on hold for several years. Now, years later, this 80-story rotating skyscraper may soon move forward within the next few years.

In the future, each apartment will rotate, meaning the view from the windows will change every minute and every second, with residents able to control the speed of rotation themselves.The architect explained on the website that he believes the purpose of design should be to adapt to the space humans inhabit and meet their needs, constantly evolving—even achieving a sense of continuous forward motion in terms of aesthetics.

CNN also reported that this project is likely to be completed by 2020, with an estimated total cost of up to $40 million. However, the location of this rotating skyscraper has not yet been finalized, so the actual views remain to be seen.
