These days, pet-themed cafés with dogs or cats aren’t anything new. But the classic look of the so-called “grass mud horse” — those big, round, innocent eyes, long necks, and fluffy fur — belongs to alpacas (Alpaca), originally found on the high plateaus of Peru and Chile in South America. 1. New Taipei – Oia Art Café
Located at Oia Art Café in Sanzhi, New Taipei City, this restaurant offers the chance to get up close with alpacas. Two alpacas — one black and one white — freely roam inside the café, completely unafraid of people. In addition to interacting with them indoors, there’s also an outdoor area where you can take plenty of photos with them. The café is very close to Sanzhi Shallow Bay; after your meal, you can head straight to the beach for a stroll and some beautiful photos. To avoid crowds, weekdays are recommended.

2. Taoyuan – Futian Garden Farm
Futian Garden Farm is located near Cihu in Daxi, Taoyuan, and is a multi-functional tourist attraction that combines a farm, ranch, and restaurant all in one. The park is home to five alpacas that often lazily lie on the grass or occasionally walk up to visitors. Their big, watery eyes are beyond adorable, and you can even feed them grass or take close-up selfies with them. The farm also features a crystal chapel, vast grasslands, ponds, and is home to horses, pigs, and poultry. Numerous European-style landscapes make it a great spot for photos.

3. Hsinchu – Lüshi World Ecological Farm
Spanning over 70 hectares, Lüshi World Ecological Farm is divided into six themed zones with 47 viewing and leisure areas. If you’re lucky enough to catch the scheduled animal release times, you can take photos and interact with large groups of alpacas and pelicans. As one of the park’s star attractions, the alpacas slowly wander across the expansive lawns, and their goofy expressions and slow movements have been dubbed incredibly therapeutic by netizens!Visitors are reminded to always interact gently with the animals. 4. Taichung – Lvdadi Landscape Cafe
Dining at Lvdadi Landscape Cafe, you’ll often see alpacas wandering around. Their silly and adorable looks are sure to melt anyone’s heart. With a fairly large space, “Lvdadi” combines the charm of cute animals with sweeping scenic views. Thanks to its elevated location, you can also enjoy distant mountain ranges and the Da-Jia River. It attracts many visitors. The popular star “Maomao,” with its clueless expression and watery eyes, is extremely photogenic, and many guests rush to take selfies with it. 5. Kaohsiung – Jingyuan Farm
Kaohsiung also has alpacas. Jingyuan Farm is located close to Kaohsiung International Airport, where you can watch planes take off and land up close. Originally known as Jingyuan Airport Cafe, it was later expanded and transformed into a farm. The vast grounds are designed with a Southeast Asian theme. In 2012, seven alpacas were introduced, among which the mother-daughter pair, Princess Nini, are especially popular. In addition, you can see hippos, lions, raccoons, and even the world’s conservation-listed bird, the blue-and-yellow macaw. Visitors can interact with these animals up close and experience the warm charm of southern Taiwan.
