At 22:30 on January 15, hail was observed on Hehuan Mountain, and rime formed on Yushan. Due to abundant moisture brought by a continental cold air mass, snowfall began at 04:20–04:35 on January 16 on the North Peak of Yushan, accumulating 0.9 cm; snowflakes were also seen at Paiyun Lodge. The Yushan National Park Administration reported that temperatures at Paiyun Lodge dropped to -3°C around 06:00 this morning, with snow accumulation reaching 0.5 cm.

Although the Yushan National Park Administration has not yet implemented snow season control measures in the park area, visitors planning to go up the mountain to enjoy the snow are strongly advised to stay warm and be cautious of slippery or icy trails that may lead to falls or injuries. Paiyun Lodge staff will also step up advisories, explaining snow conditions—especially as roads to Yushan Main Peak, Yuan Peak, and South Peak are all icy and should not be attempted recklessly.

According to the Central Weather Bureau forecast, cold air will move south again on the 20th and 21st, causing another sharp drop in temperatures. Generally, when temperatures on high mountains above 3,000 meters approach 0°C—and if subsequent cold fronts or arctic air masses arrive—the alpine regions will soon be blanketed in white, and hiking trails will become icy and difficult to navigate. The Yushan National Park Administration urges and reminds hikers and snow enthusiasts to pay close attention to winter mountaineering safety. In case of snowfall, those planning to hike during the snow season must ensure they have proper snow gear and skills. Only when safety is assured can they fully enjoy the fun and beauty of climbing.
