A thousand-square-meter sunflower sea — a free flower-viewing spot in Taipei

Taipei has a new flower sea attraction, located under the MacArthur II Bridge along the Rainbow Riverside. The sunflower sea is currently blooming successively, forming a vast golden expanse as beautiful as a postcard. In recent days, it has drawn many visitors to take photos and check in. The flower-viewing period is expected to last until mid-February, making it a great spot for Lunar New Year outings.

This is the first time a sunflower sea has been planted on the Neihu side of Rainbow Riverside Park, covering an area of3500square meters(one thousand pyeong (approx. 3,300 sq ft)), about the size of eight standard basketball courts. Keen-eyed visitors can easily spot this vibrant sea of flowers from the MacArthur II Bridge, a spectacular and eye-catching sight.

Sunflowers, also known as sun plants, get their name because their flower heads always turn toward the sun. They are1-2annual herbs, typically growing to a height of about2.5-3.5meters. Given Taiwan’s climate, they can bloom year-round. Additionally, sunflower plants are rich in nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, making them suitable as green manure to nourish the soil, which is why they are often planted during fallow periods by farmers.
