The Yushan National Park Headquarters announced today that the one-day round-trip route from Tatachia to Yushan Main and West Peaks, which is highly favored by climbers, will have its acceptance quota raised to 60 people starting June 1. For general applications from groups of five or fewer, the daily quota is 10 people; for groups of five or more or institutional teams, the daily quota is 50 people, and comprehensive mountain insurance must be purchased.
The Yushan Headquarters stated that from May 1 to December 31 last year, a trial was conducted to encourage mountain teams to purchase comprehensive mountain insurance. During the trial period, all 167 institutional or group teams of five or more people applying to enter the mountain completed the insurance process. Subsequent inquiries with the applying teams showed willingness to continue compliance, so the measure will be continued this year.
The Yushan Management Office stated that applications to enter the one-day round-trip route of Yushan Main and West Peaks must be submitted 7 days to 2 months before entry until the quota is filled, and each applicant must provide proof of mountaineering ability at altitudes of 3,000 meters. The itinerary departs from the Tatachia Trailhead at 5:00 a.m., arrives at Paiyun Lodge by 10:00 a.m., and returns to the Tatachia Trailhead by 5:00 p.m. Groups of five or more must purchase comprehensive mountain insurance.
The Yushan Management Office stated that the Yushan Main Peak route features spectacular scenery, and in recent years, the number of climbers applying for one-day round-trips to Yushan Main Peak has increased. Considering climbing safety, environmental impact, and the needs of hikers, the daily quota has been raised. Climbers are also advised to assess their own abilities—if symptoms of altitude sickness or physical exhaustion occur during the hike, they should descend promptly.
