Fenglei Tower is a cultural tourism attraction.

Shangrao’s Fenglei Tower is situated on a cliff north of the Dragon-Tiger Hall. According to an appraisal by the Jiangxi Provincial Cultural Relics Survey Team, it was built during the Song Dynasty. Facing a deep valley, it presents a majestic presence. The tower is built upon a huge rock on the cliff face, constructed in three sections—base, body, and top—from granite through dry-laid carving. It has six levels and five sides, with slightly upturned eaves and a pyramidal spire. Standing 2 meters tall, it is exquisitely delicate and considered the pearl of ancient architecture on Mount Sanqing.

Fenglei Tower is not far from Wanghu’s Tomb and was originally an auxiliary structure of the tomb. It was built from the perspective of feng shui to block the wind at the mountain pass, hence the name “Fenglei Tower” (Wind-Thunder Tower). Towered by lush pines and surrounded by stunning scenery, it offers an open view to the east, making it a great spot to watch sea of clouds and sunrises.

Fenglei Tower is located to the east of the Three Pure Ones Palace. According to the Later Heaven Bagua diagram, it lies in the “Zhen” (Thunder) direction, hence the name “Fenglei Tower.” The tower is entirely carved from granite and consists of seven tiers in a six-sided, overhanging eave design. Delicate and refined, it has endured storms, snow pressure, and ice erosion, taking on a steel-like black hue, yet remains intact to this day.

The Dragon-Tiger Hall is situated on Longshou Mountain east of Tianmen Peak. It is a Ming Dynasty structure. The hall is built with dry-laid granite in an ao-ding (ridge-dragon) style, consisting of an open-top hall enclosed by 20 small square stone pillars. It measures 6.25 meters wide, 7.15 meters deep, 3.4 meters high, covering an area of 44.7 square meters. In front of the main hall is a stone archway-style gate. Inside, there are stone shrines in the center, left, and right, housing 21 stone-carved deities, most of which are damaged. Stone dragons and tigers are placed in front of the hall, giving it the name Dragon-Tiger Hall. The entire structure was built without using a single drop of mortar, giving it a rustic and natural charm. It has since been renovated and is no longer as grand as before.
