Ziyanshi Rock on Mount Sanqing

Located at the summit of Xigang on Tianmen Peak opposite Mount Sanqing, it stands at an elevation of 1,568.7 meters and has a volume of over 600 cubic meters, with open space on all four sides. A flight of steps leads up to the relatively flat top, where a stone pavilion once stood but no longer exists.

The spot offers expansive views and is an excellent place for sightseeing. However, there are no safety barriers, so please exercise extreme caution.

From atop the rock, you can enjoy uninterrupted views of Jade Capital Peak, Dragon-Tiger Hall, Fengmen Gate, Laozi Watching Scriptures Peak, and the mountain ranges of West Sea. At sunrise or sunset, when the sky is painted in rosy hues, the rocks and peaks, shrouded in mist, glow brilliantly red, creating a spectacularly beautiful scene. Inspired by this natural splendor, ancient visitors inscribed the three bold Chinese characters “紫烟石” (Ziyanshi, meaning “Purple Mist Rock”) on the cliff face. There is also a one-meter-high freestanding boulder on Ziyanshi Rock. Legend has it that in ancient times, Pan Gong (the Thunder God) stood on this rock, waving his flag while performing magic, thus becoming the mountain’s guardian deity—hence the name “Flag-Waving Rock.” Today, two footprints and a flagpole hole can still be seen on the rock.
