Lao Dao Bai Yue on Mount Sanqing

Lao Dao Bai Yue is located in the Wanshou Garden, best viewed near the Rishe Villa. The mountain resembles an old Taoist priest, standing solemnly and still, facing the sky as if meditating and seeking truth. When the bright moon hangs high in the sky, the "Taoist" is seen bowing reverently toward it. Visitors who see this scene find their minds calmed and spirits soothed.

This is one of Mount Sanqing’s most breathtaking sights, visible immediately upon exiting the southern cable car station, located in Wanshou Garden (a small scenic area in the southern part of Mount Sanqing).

What you first see from the cable car station isn’t the “Taoist,” but two separate rock peaks that resemble “pigeons,” hence the name “Pigeon Peaks.”

As you go further up, the two peaks gradually come together, forming the shape of the “Taoist.” The Taoist is depicted with hair tied up like a cap, wearing a Daoist robe, carrying a backpack, hands clasped in prayer, and body slightly bowed. It is said that when the bright moon shines overhead, a vivid image appears of the Taoist bowing in worship to the moon.

After walking around Nanshui Tu and arriving at the Rishe Villa to the west, looking southeast again reveals the “Taoist Worshipping the Moon.” This time, the “Taoist” is no longer bowing, and the details of his robe appear even more lifelike.
