The "Monkey King Presenting Treasures" is located in the northwest of the West Sea Scenic Area, one of the top ten scenic spots on Sanqing Mountain and also the best place to watch the sunset in the West Sea area. The rock formation is about 7 meters high and, from a distance, looks remarkably like the Monkey King sitting on a cliff, holding a treasure in his hands, intently gazing ahead with an adorable expression. Legend has it that this mischievous monkey is none other than Sun Wukong, who once caused havoc in heaven. Later, following the Bodhisattva Guanyin’s decree, he escorted Tang Sanzang to the West to retrieve Buddhist scriptures. After achieving great merit, he was bestowed the title of “Victorious Fighting Buddha” by the Buddha, Tathagata. To live up to the title of “Fighting,” the Monkey King came to Sanqing Mountain, where he is said to have presented treasures and subdued demons on the “Wonderful Heights Platform” in front of his cave dwelling. Over time, his image became immortalized in the rock. While there are many rock formations resembling monkeys on famous mountains across China, the resemblance of the “Monkey King Presenting Treasures” is exceptionally vivid and rare.
