Sanqing Mountain Chongxu Hundred Steps Gate

Chongxu Hundred Steps Gate is located beneath Tianmen Hundred Steps Ridge and above Wutian Gate in the Sanqing Palace Scenic Area of Sanqing Mountain, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site and a national key scenic spot in Shangrao, Jiangxi Province, at an altitude of approximately 1,490 meters.

It was first built in the seventh year of the Tianshun era (1463) and renovated in July of the second year of the Tongzhi era during the Qing Dynasty (1863). Constructed from granite in a barrel-vaulted arched stone style, it mimics a miniature ancient city gate. The gate is 2.58 meters wide, 3.42 meters high, and 2.6 meters thick, built between two massive natural rock walls. On the eastern rock face of the gate grows a pine tree named “Nest Cloud Pine,” which is delicate and charming. On the northern side of the western wall is an inscription in regular script that reads “Chongxu Hundred Steps Gate.” On both the southern and northern sides of the gate, there are cliff-carved stone statues of deities, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of “a thousand steps and then a hundred more, with towering gates both deep and grand.”
